How do i get rid of this virus on my computer?!?!?!?

i have virus protect pro on my computer (the virus) on the bottom right side as an icon that keeps blinking to a shield with a "?" and a shield with a "x". and every once in a while a little baloon pops up and says i have a number of active spyware applications running. any way to fix this for free???
